Artist's Description

"POTEAU RIVER" by James Barber

An view upstream of the Poteau River at the Fort Smith National Historic Site in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The Poteau River joins the Arkansas River just a few hundred feet downstream. At this location, boats would tie up and drop off or replenish supplies and passengers. One can still find steel rings embedded in the rocky outcrops that were used to secure the boats with ropes.
