"STOUT'S POINT AT SUNRISE" by James Barber
Petit Jean Mountain, the location of Petit Jean State Park, rises 1120 above the Arkansas River Valley and offers sweeping views in all directions. Seen from Stouts Point, the overlook on the east end of the mountain, the Arkansas River bends through the fields and woodlands of central Arkansas. At this location is the gravesite of Petit Jean, subject of the romantic legend who disguised herself as a cabin boy in order to accompany her fianco the New World. When she became deathly ill, she requested to be buried at this location.
