"WHITE SANDS" by James Barber A brief summer thunderstorm having passed, and with the temperature dropped about 20 degrees, made this serene scene at White Sands National Monument a special moment for the photographer. The sand is actually a light brown in color, and the gypsum sand actually developed a crunchy surface after the rain. The dune field covers 275 square miles of the Tularosa desert and is located just west of Alamogordo, New Mexico.
