Artist's Description
"SOAPTREE YUCCA" by James Barber
White Sands National Monument is located in the Tularosa Basin of New Mexico. One of the few plants that survive the arid conditions is the Yucca, also known as the Soaptree. Native Americans have used this plant to make clothing and soap. It also has been used by ranchers as an emergency food source for cattle.
